The Eclipse

March 3rd, 2007 Posted in Events

I had a chance to catch the eclipse tonight. Unfortunately the east coast only got the last half of it, but it was still interesting to get and provided some good opportunities with the twilight and dim moon…even in black and white. You can just start to see the shadow leave bottom left corner of the moon.

I like these! Nicely framed and executed. Gives me much more joy looking at these than at some shots that show nothing more than the moon on a features sky!

35mm? Just curious - why didn’t you zoom in tighter to the moon? I like the mood of the shots, but are they landscape/sunset type photos or are they photos of the lunar eclipse?

Sometimes we are limited by our equipment. The best reach I have is 85mm and handholding that type of shot for more than 1/20 sec is nuts. I thought the color of the sky and framing was better with this setup. I did have one at 75mm that was decent, but these were better in my opinion…even though, yes, you can barely make out the eclipse.
