This one had a bit more thought and a better execution. Still, it’s not perfect but I’m starting to think more like a strobist. I had the poor guy sit for a bit in an area where the window filled light from the left. I placed the SB-600 on the floor and shot into his right side to fill some of the shadows. At first the light was a bit strong, but it’s easy enough to just bump the power down a bit through the camera.
Soon enough I’ll be setting up a small studio area in a basement that is being finished. I’ve started to read David Hobby’s strobist blog which is a must read for anyone interested in producing some great photos with off-camera flash. I had played around with it before but I’m going to try to get more creative in the future. Here are a couple of boring shots I took with my D80 and SB-600.
So if Nikon won’t add their AF-S motors to their prime lineup, it appears that Sigma is willing to add their HSM motor to their prime lenses.
I saw this article today on DPReview.com which announces the arrival of Sigma’s new 50mm 1.4 prime lens with HSM. Sigma already has a 35mm 1.4 with HSM but the 50mm version is sure to please many Nikon owners.
My take? I’m happy. Competition is always good and if Sigma sells these like hotcakes it might get the attention of Nikon’s devleopmental and, more importantly, marketing squads.
This one is intentionally overexposed. I like the blown-out, grainy and noisy look for some reason. The angle also makes the photo as well.
I’ve come across some older gear in pristine condition. Both are twin lens reflex cameras. The first one is a Yashika MAT-124. The second is an old Rolleiflex. I have no plans on using these but they are pretty cool to look at. I’m pretty sure if I loaded up some film that these would both work. Like I said, these are in mint condition.
UPDATE (3/9): The Rolleiflex is an Automat MX-EVS from 1954-56 and the Yashica 124-Mat LM is from 1958 - Thanks to Mike from nikoncafe.com for dating them for me.
After the lens announcements at PMA, there has been some constant chatter among the Nikonians out there - mostly negative - that Nikon is ignoring requests from their customers about adding AF-S to their existing prime lineup. I’m on the fence - for a couple reasons.
Only have time to post one picture, but the portraits turned out really good. We’ll be sending the one below and a few others out soon. This was probably our favorite.
