Trip to Myrtle Beach

February 27th, 2008 Posted in Places | 1 Comment »

I, obviously, took some shots when we made a recent trip to Myrtle Beach. You wouldn’t think February would be a good time to go but the weather was wonderful and I had numerous opportunities to get some decent shots.

I only wish I had a super wide angle lens. My old 35-70mm 2.8 just wasn’t wide enough to do some of these shots justice. Still, they turned out pretty good.

The Beast is here

I traded the 35-70/2.8 for the 28-70/2.8 (AKA the Beast) and have the first few shots. Overall, I’m pretty pleased. It’s a bit heavier but more than manageable. Having the 28-35 range will come in handy. I used the boy and dogs as guinea pigs.

Favorite of the Eclipse

This is my favorite from last night. I just changed the WB to sunlight to warm it up. It made it a bit too warm so I backed it off a bit. It’s a pity that the next eclipse won’t be until 2010.

The 2/20/08 eclipse in sequence

Here are some shots of tonight’s eclipse in process.

All shot with the 70-300 VR handheld - leaning on a fence though. Not too bad considering two of the full eclipse shots were at 1/4 sec and 300mm.

Much, much better than Sams. I expected it and was very pleased with the results. Now I have an 11×14 and two 8×10’s hanging on the wall. The colors are spot on and had no surprises…which is what one wants with a printing company.

Thanks Mpix.

Outdoors anyways. Indoors it’s a bit hard if the lighting is poor, but on a nice day outside it is more than adequate. I’ve seen some shots with the 180mm 2.8 that are beautiful, but the versatility of this lens is hard to ignore. Just don’t buy this lens thinking you can use it much, or at all, indoors.
