Chess

December 9th, 2006 Posted in Things, Macro

Whenever I try out a new lens, I usually take a few shots of a chess set I have to see how sharp the lens is and just to get the feeling of how to handle it best. When I got my 35-70mm 2.8 I flipped it into macro mode and snapped a few of some chess pieces.

My aunt bought the handmade pieces for me in France a few years back and the board was made for me by my father-in-law. I don’t get to play chess much, but I keep the set out and love to look at it.

Anyway, here are the pictures.

King and friends

The above was shot handheld at 35mm, f/3.5, 1/30.

The more I shoot, the more I like black and white. There are definitely situations where color is better. Overall though, black and white just stands out better.
